Lagu ini digubah dan ditulis oleh Kristen Anderson-Lopez dan Robert Lopez, serta dinyanyikan oleh Idina Menzel yang berperan sebagai Ratu Elsa.

Lagu ini mengisahkan momen Elsa yang memutuskan meninggalkan kerajaannya setelah kekuatan ajaibnya terungkap.

Ia merayakan kebebasannya menggunakan kekuatan tanpa rasa takut, membiarkan masa lalu pergi, dan membangun istana es megah untuk dirinya sendiri.

Selain versi film, lagu ini juga dinyanyikan ulang oleh Demi Lovato dan dirilis sebagai single pada 21 Oktober 2013.

"Let It Go" telah diterjemahkan dan diisi suara dalam lebih dari 25 bahasa untuk versi single, dan 42 bahasa untuk versi film di seluruh dunia.

Liriknya berkisah tentang seseorang yang diisolasi dari dunia luar, lantaran mempunyai kekuatan yang  tidak bisa dikendalikan.

Ketika Elsa tahu dia memiliki kekuatan, dia memilih menghindari banyak orang.
